justin bieber daily showWith his first movie, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3D (#purpleglasses) coming out next week, the tween king of Twitter is in full media blitz mode. He's been "like"ing his way through interviews, booed by (jealous) New Yorkers, bailing on Kathie Lee and Hoda (despite their prepped non-alcoholic Biebertinis), but last night he made an admittedly funny appearance on 'The Daily Show' in which he and Jon Stewart pretend that they've had a Freaky Fridayesque experience.




I didn't even hear one "like"!!!!! Proud of u, JB. Gotta be honest, I'm a liiiiiiittle tempted to go get myself a HASHTAG NEVER SAY NEVER tattoo.

Another year has come and gone and it is time again to reflect on all the fine internet that has flown across our computer screens throughout 2010.

Welcome to the Third Annual Urlies, where we recap the year in internet culture -- from memes to videos to websites, and heck, Justin Bieber even got his very own category this year.

Before we announce our picks for the best of the web in 2010, we want you, Internet, to tell us who or what made your web surfing worthwhile this year. Who should take home the coveted golden computer? We want to know.

The polls are now open, in all 10 categories, and you can vote as many times as you'd like through Wednesday, December 15th at Midnight ET. The people's and editors' winners will be announced shortly thereafter. Think we overlooked a worthy nominee? This year we've added a new option -- write-in votes. Stuff that ballot box. (But trust us, it was quite a battle at Urlesque HQ for which nominees made the final cut.)

Urlesque wants to see your most creative internet meme or internet-themed costumes, and we're offering up fun prizes for the best costume submissions, voted by Urlesque readers. Prizes include goodies from a few of our very favorite websites, some big, some neat, some busted.

Take a moment to refresh yourself on the guidelines of the contest (srsly, we don't want to see your buttcrack), and bookmark hallowmeme@urlesque.com* in your address book so you remember to email us a picture of yourself in your costume. barbie video girlWhen I discovered the iconic doll Barbie was taking a turn towards geek with a new career as a computer engineer earlier this year, I was psyched. When I heard about Barbie Video Girl, I was ecstatic. And she's finally here!

Barbie Video Girl (pictured left) is a wonderful mash up between a video camera and a Barbie doll. She has a camera lens within a necklace on her chest and a color LCD screen on her back that shoots and plays back video footage in real time. Not only can girls film their world from Barbie's perspective, but there is also downloadable editing software available for aspiring wee videographers.

On one hand, I'm a little bummed that something like this didn't exist when I was young, but on the other, I'm extremely relieved as the internet would be FULL with terrible videos of me singing, dancing and making music videos for songs like 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' in my backyard (really happened). You can be assured that your faithful Urlbots will be scanning the internetosphere for awesome videos shot by children everywhere.

Bieber Stares Into Your SoulScrew it. It's Friday, I'm all alone in Urlesque HQ and no one is here to stop me from posting about Justin Bieber. Sunday, May 9 is one of the most important days of the year -- Mother's Day -- the time when we reflect on the mothers in our lives and the impact they've had on us. Moms and the internet is a funny cross section that we fully embrace on Urlesque, so I found it fitting to dedicate this Friday before Mother's Day as a special tribute to all levels of web savvy moms everywhere.

Throughout the day, we'll be posting things online that your mom would love, celebrating our favorite internet moms and you'll even hear from a few Urlbot mothers. Urlesque will feature what our moms (and yours!) want to see and, oh yes, there will be e-mail forwards. Urlesque High 5Spring flowers are starting to bloom and baseball season has officially started! I've been a longtime baseball semi-fan -- I love the whole charade of going to the ballpark, rooting for the team and having a hot dog or two, but I'm not a die hard loyal to any particular team or follow the standings closely when I'm not at the stadium. So in picking my 5 favorite baseball-related viral videos, it's only natural that they pretty much involve things that were semi-related to the sport and not necessarily the game itself.

caplin rous interviewIt's obvious that we love animals at Urlesque. We've also made it abundantly clear that we love giant things, too. So when I happened upon the amazing creature that is the capybara, the largest member of the rodent family, I was pretty into it. Then I found Caplin Rous, a domesticated capybara that lives in Texas and also has quite the internet presence. It was love at first sight -- especially when I found out he liked popsicles, blueberries and swimming.

A trip to Texas recently brought me within driving distance of Caplin's house so I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to meet Caplin, his owner Melanie Typaldos and find out a little bit more about Caplin's life online and off. And boy, did we eat a lot of popsicles.

face in birthday cakeTwo years ago on this very date, Urlesque quietly made its internet debut. We officially kicked off with an awesome parody video that talks about cats and lolspeak. Good to know that not too much has changed around here.

We've accomplished a lot in the short amount of time that we've been on the web -- from keeping you updated on the latest internet trends and memes, to banning cats and getting shoutouts from Jaleel White (we'll never get tired of that one) -- and now, over 2 million of you buggers are checking out the site each month*. But how do I know that we've really made it? When you Google "urlesque" it no longer asks you if you mean burlesque. Success!

I've been trying to rack my brain for my most favorite posts from the site's history to share but I simply cannot choose... it's like picking favorite children (er, cats). Dear Urlbot readers and bloggers, what have been your most favorite and memorable posts? How long have you been reading? Tell us in the comments below. We want to thank you personally.

It's that time of the year when Easter's most ubiquitous candy shows up in stores everywhere and somehow trickles onto our computer screens. Marshmallow Peeps have a cult following and whether it's because the pastel bunnies and chicks are adorable or because they're only "in season" for such a short period of time during the year remains to be seen.

What we do know is that people love to use the candies for way more than just stuffing Easter baskets by taking advantage of the candy's bright colors, sticky composition and cutesy shapes to creatively re-create movie scenes, construct clever dioramas and more. In honor of the web's favorite Easter candy, we'll be highlighting our favorite Peeps-related web junk all week long. Check back every day for a new dose of extra sugary-sweet internet bits.
