Tonka the Wombat lives in Australia's Billabong Sanctuary, where he enjoys a happy life full of cuddles and photo-ops. Unfortunately, Tonka's park was closed to the public after being hit by Cyclone Yasi some months ago. The wombat started acting strange and lost an enormous amount of weight, and after much investigation by his vets, he was diagnosed with depression.
The Sanctuary's staff worked to treat Tonka -- hopefully with lots of cuddles -- and now he's back to full health for the reopening of the park. The lesson (other than "wombats are cute," that is): depression is serious business, whether you're a human or an animal, and it's important to find help to deal with it. We're glad Tonka was able to pull through!
