astronomy on the road celebrates the 50th birthday of space travel50 years ago we humans officially spread our wings and jumped into the great space race, floating and soaring high up in the sky, making-out with aliens and riding the tails of shooting stars. Well, not all of that happened, but Soviet Cosmonaut (coolest job ever) Yuri Gagarin did go down in history as the first man to leave Earth's orbit.

Now, to celebrate this amazing feat in outer space history you can do two things.

First, sidle your way over to Kickstarter where science teacher Jay Horowitz is taking 'sidewalk astronomy' mainstream with his project, "Astronomy on the Road." By backing the project you're admitting to the universe that you're down for classrooms, libraries and communities all over the United States having access to fun (and free) science education. With 22 days to go the project is already a fourth of it's way toward it's goal of securing $8000 and ensuring that boring science classes are a thing of the past; first lesson in cool science - a tour of NASA's Jet Propulsion lab!

If you're on the lazy side of the spectrum today, you can still give a big 'huzzah!' to space history by searching with Google. The Mecca of Internet has a fun search page graphic today that's very mid-century sci-fi and it blasts off and everything.
