Stephen Colbert performed Rebecca Black's "Friday" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last Friday night, joined by The Roots and a menagerie of other performers. The performance was epic, but the story of how it happened was even cooler.
Here's how it went down: Colbert sold a self-portrait at auction to raise money for DonorsChoose -- a charity that funds teachers' classroom projects -- and netted $26,000. He said Fallon would match the $26k, but Fallon had apparently not agreed to put up the matching funds in advance. He agreed to raise the cash if Colbert would perform "Friday" on his show. Fallon fans responded, and Colbert had to go through with it ...
Which brings us to Colbert's bizarre, operatic version of Friday. It quickly breaks down into a Roots jam session, then the New York Knicks dance team gets involved, Fallon sings the bridge, and a great time is had by all.
