Homemade musical instruments usually sound worse than those awful recorders you were forced to play in elementary school, but the Carrot Clarinet is different. Maker and musician Linsey Pollak drilled out an actual carrot and turned it into a working musical instrument that sounds way, way better than you'd expect.
He put the process
up on YouTube for all to enjoy, from the first spin of the drill to an actual performance. Just figure out how to make a squash saxophone, and you've got the beginnings of your own food-themed band. May I suggest covering Weird Al's "Eat It?"

The Vienna Vegetable Orchestra has him beat. I have their first two CDs and they do full compositions using vegetable instruments.
