When I was just a wee lad, I received one glorious Christmas morning a Super NES with a Super Mario World cartridge that came with the setup. I couldn't tell you how many hours of my childhood were spent glued to that system stomping Bowser, killing koopas, using that secret cheat in the Forest of Illusions to get all of the extra lives. But being so young it had never occurred to me that Mario was just a plumber on A LOT of hallucinogenic mushrooms chasing after a lost love in the depths of a drug induced psychosis.
This video trailer featured at the SXSW film festival shows a funny, but at the same time more realistic portrayal of what the fantastical and imaginative world of Mario would be like if he were just a plumber in the real world working with his brother Luigi, chowing down on mushrooms, traveling through tunnels, and taking a few "invincibility stars" to get through the rough spots in life. Directed by Joe Nicolosi, this is a way darker, indie flick look into the real life of Mario that is really cleverly done. I think you'll enjoy it.
