Remember Etti-Cat? He's the courtesy cat we talked about in this post who served as forerunner of our modern-day LOLcat (and subsequent Internet feline obsession). Well, it turns out kitty-mania has gone on far longer than we ever imagined. With the help of redditor War_Whale, we found a book published in 1915 titled, "The Little Folks of Animal Land," by Harry Whittier Frees. The pages feature adorable kittens (and some other charming animals) dressed up in clothing of the period.
We dare you to look at these pictures without smiling and/or emitting even the tiniest "aw!"

They were made by Mattel, while Hasbro made My Little Ponies, so the lines were not related. Hasbro did make Sweetie Pups and Sweetie Kitties around the same time.

THIS IS SO GROSS. THESE POOR ANIMALS ARE DEAD. LOOK AT THE EYES. DISGRACEFUL AND ALL FOR A STUPID PICTURE OR TWO.

In 1915 animal pictures (and mounted displays) where usually made by killing and stuffing the animals before dressing them up, so I am really not saying 'Aww' about these.

In the Introduction of the book it is stated that these photos were made from live animals.
