I love Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill movies, and I knew to some extent that they were inspired by other films, but only a serious movie buff would notice how many clips were shot-for-shot remixes. Kirby Ferguson's video "Everything is a Remix: Kill Bill" (part of his Everything is a Remix series) allows the average movie watcher to see how many scenes were borrowed from other films.
I understand that directors are influenced by other movies they've seen and loved, but these are shot-for-shot homages to the original films. It's almost like Quentin Tartantino said to his cast, "Okay! Now lets do the scene from Samurai Fiction." Regardless of how he crafted each scene, the final product was a stand alone, fantastic flick. Still, it is fun to see where Tarantino's idea's came from all laid out like this.

there were hardly any shot-for-shots in this video. In fact there were about 5. drawing influence from other movies by using the same actions (like cutting off someone's arm, choking someone with a chain, or cutting someone's head off) doesn't constitute it as "shot-for-shot" and I have a problem with people who can watch this video and say that these were shot-for-shot in Kill Bill. use correct terminology; Tarantino was 'influenced' by these movies, he didn't take every one of his shots from them. it kills me when people think they know a lot about film.

I hate the Kill Bill movies mostly for the amount of pointless homage and whatnot as well as the lack of any true cinematic emotion in the movie, but a lot of the things pointed out in this video are a stretch at best.
I agree with the comment that said there were about 5 things that were shot-for-shots (that were pointed out in this video) and I would add some of the costume/characters (battle royale for example) are accurate. But some instances are things I have seen in literally tens if not hundreds of movies and to narrow it down to one movie being ripped off (especially when the actual shots do not look alike) is plain stupid. What the hell was with the shot of Uma getting shot in the head and the shot of Clint Eastwood on the ground? Was it because Clint Eastwood had a gun pointed at him and looked all fucked up and everyone know Tarantino likes Spaghetti Westerns? Even though you couldnt see the gun in the Uma shot and she is talking and she actually gets shot in the head? Get real. And the part showing that QT likes feet in his movies and that he uses some actors more than once? And that he has similar shots in his movies? Is that supposed to show us that "Everything is a remix" or that every director has an inherent style that they tend to replicate more than a few times? I went into watching this video already agreeing with the point of the video, but came out of the video thinking it couldn't be more pointless and/or stupid.
Sorry for my lazy grammar but I don't feel like this video warrants much effort in response. Maybe the idea to make the video should have been thought of after there was enough content found to warrant a video, rather than thinking of making the video before finding the content.

Tarantino has made it no secret that Kill Bill was a love letter to all the movies that influenced him as a kid. As far as the shot for shot video, I think SOME of the images are reaching.
I find it ironic, tho, that you paired Hannah's death scene with her death scene in Blade Runner. Very cute.
