Beyblade is a Japanese Manga series that has become popular among American children due to the branded spinning top toys associated with the cartoon. The toys come with a little plastic arena to spin around on, and the object of the game is to knock the other guy's spinning top out of the arena. But what if you want to have a truly epic battle?
A couple of kids expanded their playing field by using the family bathtub as an arena. Here's the problem: When the toys spun, their metal bottoms tore up the enamel on the tub. When mom got a $500 repair estimate, she decided to make the kids pay by giving up their allowance and selling all their toys on eBay. Above is a photo of the devastated children putting their Beyblade toys up for auction.
And then 4chan, the notoriously anarchic and prank-fueled message board, found the auction and decided to have a little fun with it.

Wow, total dick move by the mom. When you have kids, you pretty much expect them to ruin your stuff, they're kids, that's what they do. Selling their stuff to re-line your stupid bathtub? That's harsh. Even harsher is taking a picture of your kids crying and posting on eBay.

Oh, really? They DESTROYED THE BATHTUB. They deserved the punishment they got. They're young, they will learn that there are real consequences to their actions.

Total destruction? They rubbed the enamel off the tub. It wasn't like they destroyed the house, lit the town on fire, and caused a riot in the streets. When you have kids, you have responsiblity over those children. If she didn't want them to mess stuff up, perhaps she should spend more time making sure they aren't into anything they aren't supposed to be. If a young child destroys something, whose fault is it? The childs' for not knowing it was wrong or that it would hurt anything, or the parents' for not paying closer attention to their children?

Children have to learn to be responsible, and if you don't punish them when they do something wrong then they will just do it again. When I was little, I got spankings when I got in trouble. Now, however, spanking your child is being called child abuse so parents have to get a little more creative about how they punish their children. You can't take all disciplining avenues away from the child and expect them to still be responsible for their child's actions! If it was someone elses property then the mom would be reprimanded for not teaching her children to respect property. You can't have it both ways!

There is nothing wrong with teaching children that there are reporocussions of their actions. They are not toddlers and can certainly determin that they were damaging the tub. What is wrong with teaching kids to treat property in a respectful manner, especially when it is not theirs. If they damager property then they must pay for the damages and since they do not hold a paying job, then they must sell toys to pay for "their" damages. There's nothing wrong with that message.
Humiliation? If they are indeed humiliated and ashamed? ....then they will avoid humiliation by never damaging other people's property again.
It's called "learning respect".

I agree! They are only kids... Not adults....where were the parents when the kids were doing this? How old are they? Looks like maybe 7 or 8 yars old....come on. I think this is a bit extreme....don't you?

How do you know that Mom didn't tell them to keep the toys out of the tub already and they did it against the rules.
If anything Mom is actually teaching them a good lesson. They broke something, they should be responsible for fixing it. Next time when Mom says don't do something, they won't.
Just like when my brothers lost their allowance for a year because they were told not to mess with our dad's tools (he worked at home) and they did and broke a couple of them. To the tune of $1200 to replace them.

I think the kids neeeded to be made aware of the mistake but yeah...where was Mom when 500 dolllars worth of damage was being done to the tub?? and guess what, I wouldnt even have Bought those dumb things in the first place cause they are a crappy pointless way to spend your time. My kids read{among other things} for fun.

I like this Mom's style. She is on the right road to teaching her children morals and responsibility. Now that the toys are gone, there is little chance that they will re-offend. What that other site did is deplorable. It reveals that they received little in the form of discipline when they children and it shows that they have yet to grow up!

If you want to sell the toys that the kids used to mar the tub then fine. Ground them, reprimand them, and take away thier allowance. but to publicly humiliate them and take pictures of it to post online is irresponsible and mean. What is the lesson there. Maybe her kids should post the same picture with the caption "This is what we did when mom was busy on Facebook."

Those kids will hate her the rest of their lives. They will never forget what a spiteful, cruel mother she was to them. A time out could have been just as effective without traumatizing them a posting photos of them crying on the internet. That mother needs help for her anger and lack of parenting skills.

no they won't ... when they grow up they will be very appreciative that their mother taught them right from wrong. There is nothing wrong with kids paying in some way for the damage they have caused.
