Oh my god! The Arcade Fire, a band that isn't signed to a major label, just won the Grammy for Best Album for their record The Suburbs! That means millions of Grammy viewers who don't listen to anything more indie than Rihanna are suddenly hearing about The Arcade Fire for the first time. The shocked tweets are coming fast and furious, and the typical reaction goes something like this tweet from @mollymoney:
WHAT. THE. HELL. WHO IS ARCADE FIRE????????? AND WHY DID THEY STEAL EMINEM/LADY GAGA's AWARD????!!!!!! Like. Is this real life....??????
The Arcade Fire have been around since 2004, and their debut, Funeral, was Pitchfork's #2 album of the 2000s. They're so well-known in indie rock circles that many music snobs have totally stopped dropping their name. While mainstream Grammy viewers are freaking out about "nobodies" winning an award, hipsters are spitting out their PBR and removing the "sell-out" Arcade Fire from their favorite music on Facebook.
Any way you slice it, the Grammys just trolled every music listener ever, and it's hilarious. You can see a collection of WTF reactions from Twitter and Facebook on the "Who Is Arcade Fire?" tumblr. We've collected some of the greatest hits below.

Seriously. Who has not heard of Arcade Fire? Maybe these people needs to stop relying on radio-disney as their only source of music.

It's pretty refreshing to find that, not only did the artists you hear -every single time you turn on a radio- not win, but a band that's been around longer than most nominees got Album of the Year. But heaven forbid we reward the good musicians instead of the Autotuned flash-in-the-pans.
