Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly recently tried to prove the existence of God with the now-infamous line, "Tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can't explain why the tide goes in." As anybody with a rudimentary understanding of science is aware, the tides go in and out because of the moon and something called "gravity."
Naturally, a whole lot of people -- from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to seemingly the entire internet -- mocked O'Reilly for his comments. O'Reilly, rather than admit that he had given one of the shabbiest pro-creationist arguments of all time, tried to defend himself by saying,
Okay, how'd the moon get there? Look, you pinheads who attacked me for this, you guys are just desperate. How'd the moon get there? How'd the sun get there? How'd it get there? Can you explain that to me? How come we have that and Mars doesn't have it? Venus doesn't have it. How come? Why not? How'd it get here? How did that little amoeba get here, crawl out there? How'd it do it?
Of course, other planets DO have moons, which doesn't help O'Reilly's science cred one bit. The internet, of course, responded with an image meme featuring O'Reilly acting puzzled over simple, everyday things and responding "You can't explain that!"
Check out the original O'Reilly clip and our favorite images from the meme below.

children are raped, stoned to death; some people live miserable lives of unspeakable horror, others die from cancer.... and you STILL believe? your "god" must be one heck of a revengeful, nasty beast.
You Can't Explain That

Man. That's how god got there. Man. We made him up. He's just as ficticious as Santa Clause, The Easter Bunny, and a reasonable rational Faux News viewer that thinks for themselves.

Dont you just love liberals. They love to mock people of faith who know how life began and where it came from, and they always use science as their answer to the big question. But of course they are always remarkably quiet when asked, "where did science come from, "what caused the big bang", or where any other origin they claim, ie. matter, energy, etc. A little faith goes a long way to explaining everything!

Mr. O'Reilly is a remarkable idiot, and no, I can't for the life of me explain his circumstance.

That is why our country is in such trouble. Those liberals refuse to belive there is a higher power than themselves. I wonder how the news media will cover and explain the rapture?

If you think some things really bad, and God really good...you must believe God is separate from the world and that some of the things we see in it are contrary to his will. Christianity thinks God made the world. but it also thinks that a great many things have gone wrong with the world that God made and that God insists, and insists very loudly, on our putting them right again. I hope that I don't get too educated to believe in God.

God has always existed. Surely anyone who can believe that the universe created itself from nothing can believe that God has always been there. "Something from nothing" takes a lot more faith than believing in God.

There are no absolutes. If science were an absolute, we'd still believe the earth was flat and that water, air, and earth were the basest elements. Science, and religion, have evolved. Things that were absolute in religion have been challenged over the years also, other wise we'd still be holding Inquisitions. Science has evolved much faster than religion; however, as in sex, faster is not always better. All subjects are moot.

Yes! There is a GOD! I believe in Him despite the castrophies of the world...
His Kingdom is NOT of this world!
My loving grandmother, was very devoted to the Blessed Mother, Mary her whole life...Her entire life! Her husband was from Spain and purchased for her a huge statue of Mary, which she kept in her bedroom! My grandmother's name was even Marie....which means "Mary."
Well, she lived to be 92 years old and unbelievably, guess when she died?
December 8th, "The Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception."
Coincedence?
NOT!

I say--- Go help them then! Maybe God's waiting for YOU to do something.

This is a lively debate and there is no need for ugly personal attacks. As a believer of God (with a capital G), there are many examples of miraculous events. From the inception of life where two cells form a living being to the perfect synchronicity of the tides are just two examples. If you look in the dictionary for the word MIRACLE you will see:
mir·a·cle
   /ˈmɪrəkəl/ Show Spelled[mir-uh-kuhl] Show IPA
–noun
1.
an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.
2.
such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of god.
If you have not witnessed life's daily miracles, perhaps you are not looking hard enough! Peace be with you all.

You also have never heard of the Mrs. god. There is god, his son Jesus but you have never heard a single word about the little woman. Explain that someone.
Maybe god is not proud enough to speak about her. I have never believed in any kind of god and never will. I remember at onetime we were all told that Santa was real to. How did that work out?

There is a natural process for the entire way that the universe works. Perhaps that process itself is God. If so, the process is obviously not listening when you pray about your problems. The process would scarcely notice if the entire human race became extinct.
Some people choose to believe that there is a man in a white robe who listens to their problems. No one has ever seen him, and unless you figure that he is controlling the natural process, no one has ever seen any evidence of his existance. But, if those who choose to believe in him are better people for that belief, and feel better when they pray, then why would anyone want to argue with them. Perhaps their belief is also part of the natural process.

The unfortunate thing for ordinary humans is that to explain something, we need a "point of reference". We do not have a point of reference to explain "How God got there". Because we humans have a "beginning" (conception), we tend to apply this rationale to the existence of God. We cannot conceive of life being infinite, meaning no beginning, no end. God always was, and He always will be. We, possessing limited intelligence, will never understand that, or have the mental capacity to explain it.

Ms Wallace, it is arrogant to say that because you are conservative, you are the only ones that believe in God. There are churches all over this country which are not separated by a political party. Because I believe in God,I believe that God would want all humanity to have health care, and to be protected by their governments when the need arises. And I also believe that for a people that started in this country as slaves, that God would be most happy to finally see one of them make it as the first Black President. I would never say that all those with a different opinion must surely believe in the devil.
