When you find something cool on the internet and immediately run off to post it on your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or 4Chwaceblr, it's important to credit the original author. But you don't have to take my word for it: an amazing flowchart, "See Something, Cite Something," by webcomics artists Loldwell and Rosscott, makes the point more effectively.
I highly recommend consulting this chart before you repost anything cool online. It's a lot funnier and gentler than the other best way to learn about proper online citation: having your own stuff stolen without a link back. And hey, even if you're a creator-respecting saint of an internet citizen, you'll still probably find the flowchart amusing.
