After appearing on a two-part episode of Dr. Phil, Ted Williams has committed to "enter a private rehabilitation treatment facility for his alcohol and drug dependency," according to a show representative.
Apparently, over the course of the confrontation and intervention that Dr. Phil orchestrated, it became apparent that Williams' original claim of having been clean and sober for two years is categorically untrue. According to USA Today, Williams admitted to Dr. Phil that he has been drinking daily.
Williams, 53, has the full support of his ex-wife and nine children in his decision, and those of his kids who appeared on the show said they hoped rehab would better equip their father to handle his sudden fame (referring to events like the verbal altercation that got a ton of press earlier this week).
"If Ted is ever going to get better, he's got to be honest with himself and admit he's addicted to drugs and alcohol," Dr. Phil said. "I've told him it's not going to be easy and it's going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a big step in the right direction."
I'm inclined to agree.
Ted Williams has only been on our pop culture radar for ten days, but the ride has already been a bumpy one. In order for this story to have the fairy tale ending we'd all like it to, Ted's probably going to have to shape up quickly before the public loses interest in his story. Considering people like Octomom and Susan Boyle, watching an overnight celebrity struggle with their newfound fame is well-worn territory, and because Ted had such a quick rise to popularity, it wouldn't surprise me if his supporters are fickle with their enthusiasm in the coming weeks.
The bottom line is he can't cure his alcoholism over the weekend, and that's going to bore some people.
But that's the risk that we run with these human memes -- if we don't get the result we want immediately, it's on to the next one.

Honestly, I feel cheated somehow by this man, (Ted Williams) I wish him well and do hope he can beat this battle with his addictions but everyone has a story. Mine - I was stuck in a relationship with a verbal and physically abusive alcoholic partner for over 20 years - so I am no stranger to alcohol abuse. My dream has always been to be a voice actor, I have worked so hard over the years to perfect my skills and move my life in the direction of my dream doing it all secretly and while being put down, called names that no one deserves to be called and accused of being a cheater and a liar. I had even went as far as to purchase recording equipment, computer, microphone, software and so on to only come home one day to find it had all been smashed to pieces by a hammer. So, you are all thinking why stay in this situation. I had a daughter with this person that I felt obligated to be there for, to make sure she was taken care of. To make sure she had what she wanted and needed. I wanted to assure she had a good life, I felt the only way I could do that was to stay in the situation until she was old enough to go out and live her own life. There was no way I was going to leave. I couldn't. Everyone talks about how Ted Williams has paid his dues that he deserves all of this..I feel he is getting all of this attention for choosing the wrong path in a portion of his life.Sure, I could have turned to alcohol and substance abuse because of the situation I was in..How would that of benefited the welfare of my daughter, there had to be someone there to make sure she was getting fed, someone there to make sure she was getting her diaper changed, someone there to make sure she had a warm bed to sleep in, clothes and getting an education, There was no way I was going to take the chance and leave knowing the possibilities of my partner getting hooked up with someone with the same addiction and me not knowing how my daughter was being treated. If I had to be belittled, slapped, hit and called terrible names and accused of things on a daily basis to make sure my daughter had the things she needed- so be it. I raised a very beautiful - kind - and loving young woman. It was worth every minute of the hell I was going through as that being the result. I did get out of the situation just shortly after my daughter was out on her own. I don't live that life any longer but I still carry the scars, physical and the emotional ones. I now am married to a very beautiful and kind and carrying woman who supports my dream of being a voice over actor, who is willing to stick by my side through the good times and the bad times and not judge me but to love me.
sorry for the long comment but it just shows, we all have a story.I truly feel that my day is comming, that all I have had to endure in my life, all of the hard work will someday pay off. In a sence I was a “homeless” man for over 20 years.
Personally - I don't think this man has talent, He has a nice voice. So do thousands of people out there. I can sound just like him. But I would wager any amount he can't sound anything like all of the various voices in my skill set...
Now Don LaFontaine..There was talent and a perfect example of a man that deserved the attention he received for his accomplishments,
