Not everyone has enough money (or lives close enough) to catch Paul Reubens reviving his iconic character, Pee-Wee Herman, on Broadway. But at the very least, it's just comforting to know that he's there in his bow tie and tiny suit, receiving rave reviews (and also that the original Miss Yvonne is still being played by Lynne Marie Stewart, amen).
And with the Pee-Wee revival rollicking at full steam, what better time than now to wax nostalgic for Pee-Wee's Playhouse, one of the most subversive, brilliant, and groundbreaking achievements in television and children's programming? It's tough to choose a favorite part of the show, considering there was just so much to choose from: Chairry, Jambi the Genie, Penny, the jazz puppet ensemble, and friggin' S. Epatha Merkerson as Reba the Mail Lady? The list goes on.
Let's begin with this supercut featuring Conky the Robot's printing out of EVERY SECRET WORD uttered on the Saturday morning staple.
