Nobody likes hitting the mall during the holidays, but I wish I had been sitting in the food court for this flash mob, where 100 nondescript mall patrons (and one janitor) turned out to be a choir. They emerged from the crowd, starting with one woman and one man, and burst into the Hallelujah Chorus, astonishing fellow mall-goers.
I love flash mobs, but I'm content to watch most of them online. YouTube usually provides more camera angles and a more complete picture of these orchestrated stunts -- because the cameraman knows what's about to happen. With the Hallelujah Chorus flashmob, though, I wish I had been there, chomping on a limp slice of Sbarro and hating my life until the moment I realized something magical was going on.
But hey, the video's not bad, either.

that was not a flash mob. that was pathetic. more people filming on their cells phones than singing.

I like these. I was lucky to see one in London next to Big Ben when I was on holiday in the UK, very funny! Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3q_74fezZU

If I was there I would have joined in. In High school and later at churches I sang this every year. I love this. It filled me with joy everytime I performed it

I love URLESQUE.COM!!! And this Christmas video shows that the true meaning of Christmas was bestowed upon all the mall shoppers (and eaters!!!) Wouldn't it be nice if we had choirs of any size singing at the malls during the holidays? I thoroughly enjoyed this. And the looks on peoples faces was classic!! The kids were certainly in awe as well!!! Thanks to the choir!!! I LOVED IT!!!!

I love to watch these flash mobs, and this one was especially wonderful. I love this song, sang it in chorus back in elementary school, although not this good by far.
Thank you to the performers for doing it, and thank you urlesque.com for posting it.

I think the flash mob singing the Hallelujah Chorus at the Philadelphia Macy's was more amazing! But regardless, good job on spreading holiday cheer.

It hadn't felt much like Christmas until I found this video. Sincerest thanks to all those people who created a magical moment. They sounded like a rehearsed choir!! And like Diane, I couldn't help but see the looks on the children's faces. Even adult shoppers seemed moved. Thanks to all involved. You've made my day!!!

Judith...YES, I agree about people's faces filled with delight. Did you notice, right at the VERY end, the quick scene of two teen boys(hardly the kind you'd think would be impressed with anything but hip-hop or rap...LOL!) clearly smiling with their approval. One of them appears (to me) to be mouthing the words, "That was good!" Take a peek at the video again!

I enjoy studying the individual singers and audience members as much as listening to the music. My impression of the young man at the end was he said "that was good." Another lady capturing the action with a cell phone looked as if she could be the sister of the lead off singer. It is also fun to go the Chorus Niagara Web site and match choristers names with Face Book entries to sequences from the video. After a while you get the feeling of having some connection with the participants.

I'm still coming back to replay this Urlesque video. How long will it stay available? I'm new to this site. In reply to your comment, virpilosus, about the teen guys, I, too, thought that's what one was saying and was somewhat surprised and pleased that they actually listened! Still makes me feel good to watch!!!
