Rally to Restore Sanity attendants holding signs

A quarter-million people from the internet (and some cable TV watchers) met in Washington, D.C. Saturday for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear." They listened to music! They had funny signs! And Jon Stewart gave a pretty serious speech (but with jokes).

Here's a roundup of the best of the rally.

The best signs

A rally-goer reminds people that Fox News isn't the only cable news network worth complaining about.

"This is a good sign." This is a good pun. Many more pictures at the Washington Post.

"Somewhat irritated about extreme outrage," and something about respectfully disagreeing. More pics at Gawker.

An attendee with the username "szorg" wrote, "Reddit, I drove all the way from Ohio and forgot my jacket. Thanks to nothing being open early, I will be rallying in this."

As promised, the Huffington Post sent buses from New York to D.C., but some of them arrived hours late.

Jon Stewart's closing speech

"Most Americans don't live their lives solely as Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, or Conservatives. Americans live their lives more as people that are just a little bit late for something they have to do. Often, something they do not want to do, but they do it. Impossible things every day, that are only made possible through the little reasonable compromises we all make." (Full text here.)

The assorted news

And now we wait and see if a rally arguably started by Reddit affects the national elections on Tuesday.
