In a new feature, 'Feat of the Week,' our pals over at the Universal Record Database (where everyone can set a world record) will be hand-selecting one awesome world record to highlight.
Add a straw to any drink and you get instant refinement, regardless of the beverage in question. Straws are dainty. They're elegant. So it follows that the longer the straw, the more debonair the drinker. Even when they're sitting on the floor slurping a Coke.
Following this impenetrable logic, Mel Sampson of K-Rock 89.3's "The Drive Home With Mel" is the most respectable consumer of cola in the land. After her URDB world record for Longest Straw Used to Drink a Coca-Cola was usurped -- twice -- she reclaimed it in spectacular style, more than doubling the distance of her rival Eric Thiem with a 17.22 meter tube.
In accordance with the record's rules, Mel daintily spit the coke into a cup to prove it had made the long journey from can to mouth. A noblewoman conducting a Veuve Cliquot tasting would not have exhibited more delicacy. Beat that, soda swillers.
Think you can beat this record? Give it a shot: Longest Straw Used to Drink a Coca-Cola
