Update: Jennifer Petkov Apologizes for Taunting Dying Girl, 4channers, Redditors and Facebookers Respond

Yesterday Fox Detroit ran a soul-crushing story:

A 7-year old girl named Kathleen Edward became the subject of cruel taunts by her neighbors. Kathleen is dying of Huntington's Disease, a degenerative brain disorder which killed her mother at 24.

Neighbors Jennifer and Scott Petkov, who are allegedly embroiled in some kind of feud with Kathleen's family, set up a Facebook page with a picture of Kathleen's mother in the arms of the grim reaper and Kathleen's face photoshopped into a skull and crossbones.

So, the lady, shown above, has had a change of heart and offered an on-camera apology, which you can view after the jump.

And here's the follow-up coverage. There house was egged and the requisite pizzas were delivered, but that's about it so far. Some 4chan members, who declared an unofficial attack on the Petkov family have bombarded their voicemail as well as the voicemail of Jennifer's employer.

Here's the husband apologizing and evidence of some people punishing the Petkovs. This makes it seem like the coffin could be a red herring. Still, the lady photoshopped her dying neighbors onto images of the Grim Reaper and skulls.

The apology seems absolutely forced, but Jennifer's part is pure magic:

If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't do it.

It's unlikely that 4chan trolls will give up before they cause more "butthurt," but at time of this writing, there were no threads dedicated to the scandal on /b/. There is, however, a Facebook group called "Jennifer Petkov: Don't let Trenton's door hit ya on the ass" which features a gallery of nasty photoshops.

A lot of folks remain dubious regarding the sincerity of the Petkov's apology. Over at Encyclopedia Dramatica (link NSFW), a wiki site that documents 4chan-related memes and stories, someone wrote following fictional exchange between Jennifer and her husband:

Jennifer in harpy mode: "Git out thar and clean them aigs up offen my vinyl sidin."
Husband in browbeaten mode: "okay."
Jennifer in harpy mode: "An when ye git done, get back on that facebook and tell errybody yer sorry."
Husband: "But I ain't"
Jennifer in harpy mode: "I knows ye ain't, but ye just gotta tell errybody that...it's called PUBIC RELASHUNS."
Husband: "p-p-pubic ruh ruh ruh, sheet, I caint say them words..."
Jennifer in harpy mode: "Nevermind, just get them aigs cleaned up and I'll type this apology thing up fer you to sign later..."

Meanwhile, you can do something positive. Send toys to Kathleen through this kind Reddit user's toy shop. Or, you could join this Facebook rally to support Kathleen, which over 350 plan to attend as of this writing.

Probably a case of early decorations. Grandma took offence because of granddaughter's condition. Went over and over emotionally asked them to take the decorations down. They said no. Screaming match. Internet posts in retaliation. Police, Internet and News respond and blow it way up.

C'mon, they are clearly targeting Kathleen's family. They posted photoshops of the girl's mother in the arms of the grim reaper and pictures of Kathleen's head on a skull and crossbones. Also, local news sites say that the truck with the coffin in it has been there for over a year.

One of Kathleen's family member says that the feud started because of a birthday party. Whether or not this is true, since when is it ever OK for an ADULT to maliciously taunt a seven-year old girl about death, or about anything at all? Did you even watch the original video? When she was asked why they were attacking a little girl, her reply was "For my own personal satisfaction." That is vile no matter how you spin it.

Yep, Jennifer Petkov just "accidentally" photoshopped pics of the dying child into a skull and bones motif on facebook, and it was taken totally out of context when she said that she was happy that it "burns their assholes" by doing such vile, spiteful things.

My point, from the interviews, was that the grandma was throwing a fit about gravestones, and the coffin on the back of the truck. Both of which just seem to be somewhat early halloween decorations. With the obviously religious context of the vigil they held, it seems possible that the grandmother got all up in a twist about the decorations, went next door and threw a fit, and the whole thing boiled up to Jennifer making a bad taste call by retaliating with the posts. The interviews are cut up and you don't get a feeling for the whole story.

But of course, you may be correct. With no provocation, she just decided to attack this lady and make fun of her dead daughter. I just don't see it as likely. Probably alot more backstory.

He has been taunting the family for 2 yrs with the coffin truck driving up and down the street and stopping in front of the little girls home reving the engine and saying I can't wait until you die. This is not about halloween. June is not the month for halloween. The coffin has been mounted to the truck for 2 solid years.

Considering the internet brought a 13 year old smart-mouth girl to her knees in a few days for being a smart-mouth, I expected a bit more "retribution" to be meted out to someone who makes fun of dying children. Prison inmates have a tendency to murder people who hurt children. You'd think the internet hive-mind would at least give this woman a bloody nose or at least 100 subscriptions to "Vibe" or the "Advocate"

There are multiple, reliable reports of the white trash coffin-pickup being driven up and down the street and stalled in front of the Edwards' house with the horn blasting and engines honking, on the day Kathleen's mom died (including a brief mention at ~1:15 in the first video above). It sounds to me like the proximity to Halloween is being used for plausible deniability, but the "hearse" seems to have been present for some time.

The feud was reported [1] to have started due to this:
"A member of Kathleen's family says the bad blood started about two-years ago after the two families had a falling out over a birthday party at the Rose house. At the party kids were using a "bounce-house" and playing games in the front yard. The source says that Jennifer Petkov texted someone in the Rose family, asking if her kids could come to the event. A response to the text did not come quickly enough and it angered Jennifer. According to the Rose family, she's been harassing them ever since."

I also like that the Mrs. Juggalo Petkov decided to go with the glasses and intellectual look when making her "We're very sorry that we got caught" not-pology. These wastes of oxygen deserve every bit of scorn they have received.

Unfortunately, the apology was a day late and a dollar short. The immature and insensitive actions of the Petkov's are going to keep visiting them over and over again....... evil begets evil and I'll bet money that they'll never hear the end of this..... especially after that first interview where she and her husband seemed awful darn pleased and proud of being white trash pieces of sh*t and felt OH SO justified in attacking a dying mother and child was in some way retribution for what-ever slight they felt that they've received....... the apologies are only because they know that eggs and pizza aren't the only retaliation out there......... the whole story is ALL over the internet..... much like the pictures they did and put on the internet.......... once it's out there, it's out there forever.

I suppose IF they're intelligent, they'll have NOW learned that their actions today will definitely effect their tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, and the day after that, and the day after that.... etc etc
