Some of his videos have gotten millions of views, which may be due to their sensational titles such as "Man Thrown Out of Rollercoaster in Horrific Accident" or "Snake Eats Kid Alive Caught on Tape." Who wouldn't click either of those videos if they popped up in the sidebar? I confess, that's how I stumbled onto his extensive body of work.
After the jump, an Urlesque interview with TedCrusty, the man behind these bizarre shorts, along with a selection of his finest work.
I am 21 and recently graduated from university. I currently am an unemployed hobo.
How long have you been making these shorts?
I've made these videos for about four years now, but I have been making low quality video extravaganzas for quite a long time before YouTube.
Yes, over 200 to date. It's part of the joke, that it's done so many times it just gets funnier as you sift your way through endless videos with the same gag at the end.
What motivates you to keep making these videos?
The fact that so many people out there don't get it at all, and think I am actually trying to fool them with a genuine attempt at faking an accident video, is hilarious and scary. My videos are for all the people who have some sense about them and see what I'm doing.
When I first started making videos for YouTube, they were a mish-mash of any little skit I thought of at the time. Joe was introduced after a short while as I just thought legs under a lawnmower to be quite a funny idea. Slowly I used the idea more and more until he became the staple ingredient of my videos.
Do you have any aspirations to work in film?
Perhaps, but not in a mega professional sense. A lot of "film makers" are pretentious and stuck up. It's not what I want to have to deal with.
Probably the bungee jump accident, as it is short, sweet and to the point.
