Even if you hate Pokémon, you've got to hand it to the creators of this amazing trailer for "Pokémon Apokélypse," a live-action adaptation of the popular cartoon/video game/inescapable global phenomenon. Not only is the production value quite impressive, but this fan-made video gets dark and gritty.

Pikachu almost dies in corrupt underground Pokémon fights. Team Rocket threatens Ash's loved ones with guns. This kind of real-world danger makes you care about the characters in a way the cartoon never did. It's super effective!

The worst that could happen to the animated Ash was that he lost a battle and learned an overly-simplified life lesson. Pokémon for grown-ups? Yeah, we're in!
