This is London broke the story, which was quickly picked up by
the Daily Mail, who ran
a follow-up story about Mary Bale and her family's reaction soon after.
Her mother also insisted the unmarried bank clerk 'loved cats' - and had even kept them as pets as a child.
Celia Bale, 78, said: 'She's my daughter and as far as I'm concerned she is the most caring person you could ever wish to meet.
'She had cats when she was a little girl and has never shown any cruelty to animals before in her life - she loves animals.
'I talked to her on the phone today and she can't explain why she did it or what got into her head, only that she really regrets it.'

are you serious, i watch the hole video, from the time she first touched the cat she looked around to see who was looking, then with out warning she grabbed that cat by its neck and tossed it into the trash can and walked off fast, she was not playing with the cat, she ment to get rid of it, she threw it away and thought she could get away with what she did, the cold hatefull woman needs to be put in jail for a felony abuse charge, she had cats as a child, bet she abused them too and no one saw her do it eather,, abuser dont start out one day abusing, they are doing this type of thing for a very long time,, arrest her and make her pay ,

I agree with you, Diana. She did not do it for a joke, and she knew the cat could not get out. She furtively looked around to see if anyone was watching...that is so obvious by anyone who watches the video. She definitely did it on purpose with the full intention of getting rid of the cat. Her mother is obviously lying to try to get her out of hot water. She needs to be prosecuted and she also needs to be fired from her job at the bank she works at. I would withdraw my money from that bank if I lived there because of her. A dispicable, cruel, revolting woman who should be shunned. I would be willing to bet that she has done this to other animals who were not as lucky as this one was. Personally, I think she should be dumped into a trash-filled dumpster and left there for the 15 hours that the cat had to endure.

She said she does not keep any pets, I think her mother is lying. Read more here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/aug/25/mary-bale-lola-cat-wheelie-bin

In comparison, the cat owner seems very well-balanced.

@Diana: I agree.
Some of Osama Bin-Lady's comments on that Guardian article make her seem like a classic Sociopath.
