Oh, look. A friend request from Mom. What could go wrong, right?
From accidental TMI status updates to random check-ins that reveal your actual destinations, being buds with family on Facebook has resulted in more bloopers, oopsies, and stories of total terror than one can bare. And many users are putting their foot down on the close-to-home friend requests.
We asked our Facebook friends what their rules are when friending the fam:

And what happens when Mom is the one who decides that she can't take your online shananigans anymore? Click here to read the sad story of a "Facebook Orphan" from our friends at Uproxx.

I don't really have a policy because I'm an only child & my parents hate Facebook. I'm friends with most of my cousins & a few aunts & uncles but I'm not that close to any of them so it doesn't matter.
Sorry. That's a downer.

I have a LARGE family. 5 members in my immediate and that doesn't count the aunts, uncles, and cousins on my mom's side. I have first, second, and third cousins on my friend's list. Even my mom's cousins. My great grandparents were French Canadians who immigrated here and we were taught to value family as each generation makes their appearance. I am fine with adding family because the way we all keep up with one another and know what's going on with one another. I am not that close to my father's side though. I'd feel odd with them reading everything that goes on with my life as I just don't know them. I've only seen them a few times in my whole life.

my Facebook policy is the same as my life policy - I try to be only one person all of the time - this means I don't do anything online that I wouldn't mind everyone I know seeing or learning of, just like in real life. It's the easiest and fairest way to live.
