silly bandz
As a child of the nineties, I saw many fads come and go: Tamagotchis, slap bracelets, and, of course, the inexplicable Pog, whose purpose -- to this very day -- I could not explain to you if I tried (in fact, it would sound something like this: "Bang on the cardboard circles with a thing?").

But as I've grown into "adulthood" (I'm calling it that for no other reason than that I like coffee now), I've only heard murmurs of things kids like from my young cousins: Furby, Webkinz, and now Silly Bandz. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are rubber bracelets that, despite their sometimes-intricate shapes (which can be virtually anything), are collected and fit seamlessly on wrists with the same pride exhibited by investment bankers still sporting the Livestrong bracelet (charity is great, but enough already).

Kids love these things, which has led to the inevitable banning by school officials. But that didn't stop adolescent rapper Young Siege from gathering a gaggle of Silly Band fanatics to show off their goods in his official song, "My Silly Bandz." Kidz Bop this is not.
