Every year about this time, for the last 2,000 years or so, the night sky lights up with ancient debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet.
Last week the stars aligned to create a truly spectacular viewing experience -- an evening that began with Venus, Mars and Saturn all lined up in the Western sky and ended with meteors shooting through the Perseus the Breaker constellation at a rate of up to one per minute.

Concerning the heading for this article, was it meant as a joke? "Four Great Videos From The Perseid Meteor Shower" indeed! The first three recordings only show one or two meteors during their entire playing time, the remainder of the recorded streaks are simply passing aircraft! Only the last recording gives any hint of what went on.

The first video didn't have a single meteor in it... a couple of airplanes, but no meteors... nice video though of the Milky Way...
The second video... wtf?? just clean it up and show only the clips that have meteors, we don't need to see every other frame that you happened to have on your card at the time... and slow it down!
The third video: The first half is shot kind of weird (what lens wwas being used to give a view like that?), but again, a couple of airplanes. I saw one meteor and it looked to be a sporadic (didn't trace back to Perseus)... The second half was footage from an all-sky camera... a few airplanes, then lots of clouds (neat to see the two layers moving in different directions)...
video #4: okay...
Here are some that are better:
-- http://vimeo.com/14133160 he even notes that it's hard to tell the airplanes apart from the meteors in this version...
-- Spaceweather[dot]com has an awesome gallery of pics from the meteor shower including some videos
-- APOD always has awesome pics
then searching on "Perseid meteors time lapse"

The first three were unimpressive.....the second one was gibberish.......at least the fourth one had some meteors in it.......The first one was all airplane lights.......I sat out in my back yard for five nights and I'm in an airport approach pattern so I know this.........There were some good fireballs that I saw though those nights.....%-)
