katy perry shooting whipped cream in california gurls video
Katy Perry's catchy summer hit, 'California Gurls,' has inspired just as many parodies and silly covers as Ke$ha's 'TiK ToK' -- and, in case you didn't catch our 'TiK ToK' video roundup, that's a lot. What makes 'California Gurls' so easy to mock?

Well, for one thing, it's nearly the same song as 'TiK ToK,' as more than one DJ has cleverly proven. For another, it's got the name of a state in it, which leaves it open to re-interpretation by 'gurls' (and some guys!) from any state, city or high school anywhere. BuzzFeed attempted to find 'California Gurls' covers from all 50 states and got pretty close.

On top of the "other state" versions, there are also videos making fun of Ms. Perry herself and the sexed-up Candy Land imagery in her video. When you shoot whipped cream out of your chest, you have to expect at least a few people to mock you online, right?

We've separated the funny ones from the totally unlistenable and collected all the 'California Gurls' videos worth watching, below.
'California Gurls' and 'TiK ToK' Are the Same Song
These two hits are eerily similar, except that one of them has Snoop Dogg and the other one doesn't. The evidence was compiled by DJplaceboing, and it's got nearly a million views on YouTube.
Every Single 'California Gurls' Parody
CollegeHumor has mashed up a whole bunch of California Gurls parodies into one seamless song, but every parody ever? Not quite. They missed a couple of the best ones on our list.
The Key of Awesome Parody
You haven't made it as a pop star until your song gets a parody by The Key of Awesome. This one does a great job of mimicking the visuals of the original Katy Perry video, but the lyrics are all about the stereotypical shallowness of girls in Hollywood. It also shouts out the obvious similarity between 'California Gurls' and 'TiK ToK.'
'California Gays'
These guys didn't write their own lyrics, but their dance routine is pretty impressive, and ... well, they're "really really ridiculously good-looking," as Derek Zoolander would say. If you're into the fellas, you may need a cold shower after this.
The Old Man Version
These elderly gents pull off a spirited, self-deprecating parody that's got nearly a million YouTube views. It was even posted on Twitter by Katy Perry herself. It's not for the weak of stomach, sure, but you gotta love them for having a sense of humor.

Hey, Eliot! Get these guys on Eliot's Senior Moment!
'California Dorks'
Okay, I have to confess that this is my personal favorite 'California Gurls' parody. As an Urlbot, how could I not love a song about high pixel counts and searching Google Maps? These guys have written some great lyrics, and their sound quality is much more listenable than most of the parodies I came across. Hey, they're dorks ... they know how to use auto-tune properly!
XBox Parody, by For Skits and Giggles
For Skits and Giggles turns in this fairly popular parody that asks, "Is that girl I'm chatting with on XBox Live really a girl?" Gamers, admit it: you know you've asked yourself this question, too.
'Mushroom Kingdom Gurls'
Oh my Nintendo-playing god! The kid who created the extremely awesome (and extremely cute) Mario Kart Love Song has made his own 'California Gurls' parody ... 'Mushroom Kingdom Gurls'. So sweet, so full of Mario game references, and the guy can actually sing ... how can you not love it?
7-Year Old MattyB Raps 'California Gurls'
A 7-year-old named MattyB, who calls himself "the youngest rapper in the hip=hop industry" freestyles over the breakdown from 'California Gurls.' What do you think? Should Katy have collaborated with MattyB instead of Snoop Dogg?
'Minnesota Gurls'
Congratulations, Minnesota! You've turned in by far the best and most popular state-specific parody, with 800,000 views and climbing.

These lovely Minnesota ladies look great and can actually sing on key, and their lyrics are full of clever regional references. BRB, looking up prices on airfare to the Twin Cities!
'Carolina Gurls'
'Carolina Gurls' is another regional parody with over 100,000 YouTube views. This one is a shoutout to all the wonderful girls of the South. It's fun and kind of charming, but I don't think their parody lyrics measure up to Minnesota's.
'Jersey Guido Boys'
This Jersey Shore-themed is possibly the most hilarious regional parody we've seen. It's punctuated with fist pumps, hair product and puns about The Situation. Absolutely spot-on.
'Staten Island Gurls'
'Staten Island Gurls' is like the girl version of the Jersey Shore Guido parody. Orange skin? Check. Distinctive accent? Got that, too.

A+ lyric writing here, but the singing is kind of hard to take when the Staten Island accent is emphasized for comedic effect. Still, this one's got over 200,000 views, which puts it right up there among the most popular regional parodies.

Staten Island represent!
