Being jerked around and quite literally thrown for a loop while strapped to a chair dangling off a 200 foot high metal track doesn't exactly sound like a relaxing activity, but it's perfect for daring action lovers. Some people travel to pretty great lengths in search of their next thrilling ride and others have even gone so far as to build fully functional, home-made coasters right in their backyards. Here are 33 ridiculous, scary and awesome roller coasters from around the world.

About a third of those aren't actually roller coasters they're just classified as thrill rides.

And 100% of them are classified as "NO WAY BUB!" I like a nice, slow ride. I don't need thrills. I'll be waiting on the carousel.

Disappointing article--as a fan of urlesque, I often surf their site with enthusiasm to see what they have to offer...however, a number of mistakes were made in this piece, which I believe is relatively inexcusable...one point: having lived and worked in Japan for a few years, I noticed the author obtained some photos of rides located in that country; the one labeled 'A Nerve-Wracking Plunge' is located in Yokohama, but is not 'A Ridiculous Rollercoaster' as the title of this article suggests...rather, it's quite small and for the novice. Also, 'A Very Modern Art Looking Coaster' is again not 'Ridiculous'--maybe intermediate at best...and finally, 'Eejanaika in Japan' has been mislabeled--the famous Eejanaika is located in Fuji-Q Highland, and it is one of the few 4D coasters in existence (the picture of the coaster used here is NOT of the actual coaster--it's different!) In all fairness, Eejanaika's 'ridiculousness', for lack of a better term, surpasses that of the one found in Magic Mountain. I wonder if there are other mistakes in this article--seems author Drew needs to check his sources!!!

You called the writers discription disappointing. Too bad. You continued to pick the article apart as though you were a teacher correcting a rubbish filled book report. Why? Are you trying to impress someone? And just in what way are you trying to impress that person or persons?

Oh Joe, I actually AM a teacher, but it's not the fact that it's my responsibility to critique/correct work on a daily basis that made me make the comments concerning this article. My point is that the author should have done more research before publishing this work--given the fact that the title of this article is a misnomer, and that at least one picture of a roller coaster IS NOT what the roller coaster actually looks like, etc.
And as to impress someone? Ha, no, but it was my intention to directly point out the author's mistakes, in hopes that when he/she publishes a new article, it will not contain so many errors.

Where's the Coney Island Cyclone on that list? I still have the softball sized bruise on my hip a week after riding that thing to prove it's one of the more intense coasters out there.

Hopefully, there will one day exist a coaster that is so big it crosses state lines.

Actually, Thunder Road at Carowinds in Charlotte, NC does cross the NC/SC border.
