June 15th marks a new holiday for the internet: Cheer Up Keanu Day. Thousands of people on the web have mounted a heartwarming effort to bolster the spirits of actor Keanu Reeves, who became a meme this month when he was spotted forlornly eating a sandwich alone on a bench. They're not just doing nice things for Keanu, though, they're also donating to charities and volunteering on his behalf. It totally makes sense, because Reeves is quite the philanthropist himself, reportedly donating a large percentage of his earnings to charities and to the crews of the films he works on.
Now Keanu has gone from a running joke to an icon of "talent and humility." Even the notoriously harsh trolls over at 4Chan love Keanu: they started all this with a list of true "Keanu Facts" that give us even more reason to believe Keanu might be the most kindhearted dude in Hollywood.
The two main ways to participate in Cheer Up Keanu Day are to send the actor a nice note or a package (his fanmail address is listed on the Cheer Up Keanu Day Facebook page) or to donate to cancer research. Keanu's fans figure that gift will have special signifance to him, because his sister Kim was diagnosed with leukemia. If you can't send mail and don't have any money to donate, you can still post your message of love from the internet to Keanu at ThankYouKeanu.com.
Cheer Up Keanu Day is now so big that it has 14,000 attendees on Facebook, and mainstream press coverage in Time and USA Today. Nobody has gotten a reaction from Keanu himself, though. Was he really sad, or just pensively enjoying a sandwich? Either way, we can only imagine that he's smiling today at the thought of so many people being excellent to one another on his behalf.

I don;t think "Cheer Up Keanu" should be continued. This man's privacy and life should not be a Facebook "cause"; I bet some meddling group of people with nothing better to do started this....Its wonderful to do good things for others but can't you see calling it "Cheer Up Keanu" Day could be humiliating to the actor.
Lord, save us from those meaning us good!

I chose to ski over a title Cheer Up Keanu as he didnt look sad, but the meme's were great fun, the letters at thankyoukeanu.com were so heartfelt, and let me see another side of Keanu of so many many nice things he has done for people for the last 20 years. What could be wrong with that? Nothing. Those private life stories you talk about are in all of his articles he himself has talked about,he's a big boy im sure he could handle all of the nice things that came from a pic of him eating his lunch.
He may not get it from why it started, but I would bet Keanu had a smile on his face reading all of the well wishes, and especially those who donated to cancer research, those who are watching his movies again, those that told some good stories of encounters with him,and those that misjudged him before and took another look at a man that deserves all of teh good coming from this Cheer up day that happened.
All positive energy, it feels great for Mr. Reeves.
The paparazzi that took the pi, wanted to be paid.Thats why it was stopped, and as we all know, a well documented case from perez h when he was sued for misuse /posting a pics with out paying for them sent him to court. think he paid 100,000. Wow. a lot of cash.
Good luck to Mr. Reeves in his life. He inspired so many that said it made them want to be a better person.
