calvin minus hobbes
Calvin and Hobbes, one of the most beloved newspaper comic strips of all time, just isn't the same without Hobbes the tiger. A new collection of images called Calvin Minus Hobbes replaces the vibrant, creative Hobbes of Calvin's imagination with the stuffed toy that everyone else sees. It's definitely much less whimsical and actually quite jarring to see Calvin talking to himself.

Because Calvin is a kid, he doesn't seem totally delusional, the way Garfield's owner Jon Arbuckle did when Garfield Minus Garfield took the cat out of the strip. These also aren't as disturbing as that parody comic where Calvin's parents put him on ADD meds, and he starts ignoring Hobbes and doing his homework (it's too sad to link to, you should Google it yourself if you want your heart broken). Some people have seen madness in Calvin Minus Hobbes, but I just see run-of-the-mill grownup cynicism.
Calvin imagines that girls are gross. (Maybe that proves he's NOT delusional!)

I don't know what Hobbes told him, but it must have been pretty shocking.
