Road signs are pretty boring, albeit important. They tell us where to go, what to do and what we should avoid on the road. Road signs don't usually make us laugh -- until people figured out that they could be altered in a number of ways.
Pasting a sign over another sign is a simple idea, but hacking into the digital road signs that warn us about traffic delays and road hazards is a whole new level of dedication to mishievous shenanigans.
Here are 19 of the funniest hacked digital road signs.
"You'll Never Get to Work on Time, Haha!!"
"Take Your SUV Back to Detroit"
"Trapped in Sign Factory"
"Sorry Mario -- The Princess Is in Another Castle"
"This Sign Has Been Hacked"
"Drive Drunk"
"Prepare to Be Annoyed"
Zombies are a favorite for these sign-hackers.
"Nobody Has Ever Loved You"
"Extreme Fire Hazard -- Don't Even Fart in the Forest"
"OMG The British Are Coming"
"Raptors Ahead, Caution"
"New York Is Dying"
"There May Be Trouble Ahead"
"Party At Julia's 2nite"
"Klaatu Barada Nikto"
"UFO Crossing Ahead"

I live in the area that the "Raptors Ahead" sign was. It was really funny, but apparently the city didn't. I think they were trying to find out who did it to charge them with something. Obviously couldn't take a joke!

The British one is not a hack - it's fake - very fake!

The 'There May Be Trouble Ahead' is a Photoshop job.
How do I know? Look at the signs behind it. (FYI: those blue signs you get on UK motorways are never, ever digital signs - so unless someone went and replaced them all... :P)

The UK one is very fake. Love and Romance aren't places in the UK.
Seen on the M6 South: Expecting 3 lanes? Ha.
Further on: Lane closed. Where have you been?
But then mostly its 'take a break. Tiredness kills...don't use hard shoulder...50 (mph)...junction closed due to accident.' Yeah, I spend approximately half my week in traffic on the M6.

The one that says "DRIVE DRUNK" isn't actually a hack, it was a two part message that said something like "We please ask you to be kind to other drivers this night and do not" and then the second page said in big letters "DRIVE DRUNK" because it didn't fit onto the first page of text.
It was pretty funny to see.

Someone hacked a road sign in Portland, Oregon (right next to a strip club) and it displayed "Caution Zombie Stripper" for a few hours one evening. Good stuff.

Don't forget:
DANGER DANGER
HIGH VOLTAGE
WHEN WE TOUCH
WHEN WE KISS
The words are from Electric Six's song "Danger! High Voltage".

For those who don't get the "Love and Romance" reference, go to youtube, type in "let's face the music and dance".
