star wars pregnancyThis geeky couple wanted to announce their twin pregnancy with a bang, so they edited footage from Star Wars to illustrate, as the internet once put it, how babby is formed.

I have to admit that I was a little unimpressed until the Millenium Falcon zoomed into the scene with the caption "Kickass Sperm" and shot down some TIE Fighters (aka: "Laws of Nature").

We chatted with the dad, Jeff Hays, about the creation of the video.



How did you come up with the idea?

My wife and I were almost done with "trying" to have a kid. I'm an editor and graphics artist by trade, so I always like doing stuff like this. Being a giant movie dork, I wanted to use the best "last second heroics" scene to build the analogy. It was between this and the lightning striking the clock tower in Back to the Future. The Death Star trench just seemed funnier.

Was your wife totally cool with it or did you have to win her over?

She was fine with it. Although she's not as big a Star Wars nerd as I am, she still loves the original trilogy and was on board from the start. She did lay down the mandate of no Star Wars characters names for the kids though...which did make it into the edit as you can see.

What did Grandma and Grandpa think?

They seemed to like it...but, honestly, I don't think it was that much on their radar. They were rather ambivalent about it.

How long did it take to put this all together?

Took me about 4-5 hours one afternoon.

If you end up having another kid, how will you top this?

Well, maybe I have to revisit to the Back to the Future idea with the lightning hitting the clock tower. After these first two arrive, though, I may not have much time to make videos in my free time.
