Also, Mr. Peanut gets his head shot off within this post. That has to count for some attention, no?
'Pillowhead' by Will Goodan
Shot during the international Pillow Fight Day festivities in Los Angeles, Will Goodan's 'Pillowhead' is an impromptu video featuring hundreds of feather-covered combatants vying for pillow fight supremacy. It's not as weighty as I make it seem. In fact, the entire thing looks like a bunch of rambunctious kids found where their parents stashed the candy. Everyone goes crazy!
'The Last 3 Minutes' by Shane Hurlbut, ASC
A janitor clutches his ailing heart and a precious heirloom -- 'The Last 3 Minutes' takes viewers through the final fleeting moments of a dying old man. Regardless if you believe in the "phenomenon" of your life flashing before your eyes, Hurlbut's short film will break your heart and make you think about the moments that define you as a person. Like when I told our younger sister she was adopted, as a joke, but then it turned out to be true. Oh, boy. I'm never living that one down.
'Solidarité' by La Boite Concept
You know those newscasts that try to rope in viewers with reports about things that could kill you, gluing us to our televisions until the final seconds of the broadcast -- and then they were talking about falling into a pit of fire, all along! 'Solidarité' is kind of like that. Except what could kill you isn't something you'd expect.
'Meet Meline: The 3D Animated Short Film' by Sebastien Laban & Virginie Goyons
'Meline' doesn't do anything groundbreaking in terms of 3D animated short films, but it's so adorable and charming I had to add it to this week's selections. Created with "no budget," 'Meline' tells the story of a young girl whose curiosity is piqued when a mysterious creature grabs her attention while she plays in her grandparents' barn. Prepare to say "Aww" at least twice.
'Logorama' by Marc Altshuler - Human Music
Foulmouthed Michelin Men, perverted Pringles mascots and an evil Ronald McDonald are only three elements that make 'Logorama' an incredible short film (and the Oscar winner for Best Animated Short). Taking place in a city completely comprised of commercial branding, the world is both beautiful and devastating. It's devastating in the sense that you're likely to name ninety percent of the logos on display, while you probably couldn't point to Canada on the map. It's where Santa lives, right? Okay, maybe only I have that problem.
