The versatility and near-indestructibility of the Peep makes these marshmallow marvels the perfect prop for creative world records. Here at the Universal Record Database, we have documented multiple Peep-related achievements by record setters from around the country. Four such impressive feats follow.
Spoiler alert: Someone balances Peeps on a baby. I know.
Despite an ingredients list that has more in common with many industrial solvents than actual food, Peeps can be eaten to excess with no immediate ill effects. (Intense sugar high and subsequent crash notwithstanding.) Heather Mulligan demonstrates this in her URDB world record for Peep consumption, eating seven of them in 30 seconds. A tall glass of water was the key to alleviating chalky mouthfeel.
Taking inspiration from the great Thanksgiving tradition of the turducken, Erin Fierst of Walton, New York, stuffed 12 Peeps with jelly beans, punched a hole in the base of a chocolate bunny and crammed the whole dozen inside. The requirements for beating this record are stringent: the bunny must be seven ounces, its structural integrity cannot be compromised and the opening needs to be carved from the bottom. Hey, we don't make the rules. We just enforce them.
What better time than Easter to honor the messianic iPhone? And what better way to show one's devotion than to balance chick-shaped Peeps upon it? Ryan Shannon of Redwood City, California, placed 20 of the fluorescent fowl on his phone.
Balancing Peeps on an inanimate object is one thing, but for a real challenge, try placing them on a living, breathing human. In a stop-motion video that scores eight itty-bitty kitties on the adorability scale, Greg Roberts balanced three Peeps on his sleeping baby. Little Liam looks blissfully oblivious during the staccato candy invasion, but may develop a mysterious addiction to marshmallows as he enters his formative years.
