There's nothing like an ice cream cone to combat the beating Istanbul sun, but getting one isn't as easy as you might think. In the US, we buy ice cream from stoned teenagers and shady tattooed dudes in refrigerated trucks. In Turkey, people buy ice cream from street performers who look like they just dropped out of the Benihana Academy to pursue a life of petty crime.

The process is a frustrating but good-natured cat and mouse game in which the server clearly has the upper hand. Try as he might, the hungry ice cream buyer just can't seem to grab the cone away. Never mind that it's already bought and paid for. The show is included in the price.
