You are watching the birth of an icon.
Usually, an image epitomizing an emotion or reaction, the sort used in forums and half-assed blog illustrations forever after, is born deep in the heart of forum-land, somewhere between 4chan, Fark, or a million topical forums, and the source is lost to time. This one comes from a Polish (right?) YouTube account, though it was quickly copied to an English-language account full of stolen videos and spread around the web as OMG Cat.
OMG indeed. OMG to us all.

Update: Just what has OMG Cat seen? We find out.

I've raised kitties(indoors only!)for 40+ yrs ranging from 3 wks to 20 1/2 yrs old. Almost all ferals/rescues. When they smell something they really like or want more information about, they do it thru a sensitive organ in the roof of the mouth (Jacobs)? However, their expression is more of a "grimace" as their upper lips lift over their top front teeth. (The big cats you see on nature shows do the exact same thing). Chances are sweet little OMG Kitty isn't smelling something curious and instead may have dental, oral, or even neurological problems....although in fairness it is possible it's just a quirk or a non-threatening malformation she was born with. ***HELLO?***.....ARE THERE ANY VETS OUT THERE SPECIALIZING IN FELINES WHO WOULD CARE TO WADE IN ON AND ADD TO THIS DISCUSSION?

Did it ever occur to you that the cat must have burnt its tongue or the upper side of the mouth (pallatus). I saw a doc. when a cat like this was found with a big ulcer at the base of the tongue. This one doesn't look like it has fun, look in its eyes. Is so sad that the owner thinks is funny.

that cat looks like it's injured. If you think this is funny, there there is something seriously wrong with you

I don't know that it is injured. one of my cats does this sometimes, open his mouth like he is going to yawn, gets distracted by something and just sits there with his mouth hanging open. And he has nothing wrong with him (except for stupidity)

That is one of the funniest videos I have ever seen and Im a BIG cat vid fan (Icanhazcheezburger.com) I was ROFLing at 4am after watching that...surprised I didnt wake the whole house.
And the kitty is NOT in any kind of pain. Had cats my whole life and she is fine. She probably is smelling something...cats smell with their mouths open like that. She is VERY funny. THANK YOU!!

I know what you are talking about.I call it "the stinky face".....the video shows something different...I have 8 cats and have had cats all my life...That cat has something wrong with it....gums or teeth are hurting him...My sons cat had a tumor on its tongue....it's cancer. They had it removed but the prognosis isn't good.....I would of liked to heard sound ...if he is growling it changes things.....

I have commented when it appears physical issue but looked at this twice, the cat's eyes do not look like in pain eyes. For sa second maybe he looks scared but then really, top me, looks like a "what in the world is that I;m looking at."
