I have an Akita (American) and these dogs get a bad rap. She is the sweetest dog I have ever come across. She is a SARA registered service dog and is a natural at her "job".

You are perpetuating myths. I am a huge advocate of rescue and people need to know that you can adopt a pedigree dog or cat through rescue orgs.
I wanted a Burmese cat, the kittens go for $800 at a breeder, I registered on Burmeserescue.org and found a 1 year old w/ papers in my area for free in just over two weeks. There are organizations for every breed you can think of...
Petfinder allows you to conduct a nationwide shelter search by breed in just one click.
People get dogs because they are popular then discover they are too high maintenance- like Jack Russels and especially Beagles, the rescues are full of them- they are cute but very high energy, mischievious and require way too much work for the average family.
Anyway, while I respect and share your preference for rescue adoption, rather than being negative I help by directing people to purebeed shelter orgs.
