According to Weird Asia News, the process of casting a rod with a nut attached as bait for a squirrel to take hold of is a Japanese phenomenon that's been around for more than a decade. It's called Squirrel Fishing, and apparently it's a popular pastime among Japanese families and -- whoops! -- students at Harvard University.
The goal of squirrel fishing is to lift a squirrel into the air using only a fishing pole with a nut tied to a string as bait. The fishing pole can either be a real fishing pole, or simply a long stick tied to a rope. Either way, the pole is cast in front of a hungry squirrel in the hope that he will jump for it and latch on, allowing the fisherman or fisherwoman to raise the furry little critter off the ground and into the air.Uh oh, we can already smell the animal rights activists preparing our knuckle sandwiches as we type this. And we're truly sorry to rain on their rodent party, but, hey, we report, you decide. So do with the following video what you will.
