Are you ready to meet Jesus? Do you have an extra $13,000 burning a hole in your hovercraft-less pockets? If so, then this totally real, totally functional hovercraft might be just the thing for you.Designed by New Zealand inventor and mechanic Rudy Heema, the fiberglass WIG is all hover, all the time, until it hits 70kph at which point it starts to fly. Who wants to fly when you can hover? Not the J-Man, that's for sure. The auction runs through next Saturday, so act quickly if you want to be ready for church.

Can I be the first to say... this is not a hovercraft? It is a glider, or airplane, but definitely not a hovercraft. Why? There is no skirt of air cushion, which is a requirement for hovercraft.

Seems there is a brush like skirt, but from the comments above, once it's going fast enough, the wings add additional lift. Yay!

Eh? I suggest that you look at the bottom of the craft...
...it clearly has a proper skirt. You can see it working as a traditional hovercraft at 0:42 in the video when it leaves the shore.

Puts me in mind of the Russian ekranoplans - huge skimming aircraft that were secretly built to protect Black Sea shores (only revealed after the collapse of the USSR). The vehicles at first glance appeared to be airliners with stubby wings but were never intended to climb or maneuver much. They were more like jet ferries which would blast out of their hidden bases and would rise up and fly only a few meters off the water surface - but they could cross the lake in fleeting minutes with whole companies of soldiers complete with weapons & vehicles. Brilliant design - worked sorta like this, only bigger... with guns, etc. Nice work, Mr. Heema.

That chick is yummy!
Oh and the hover-glider thing is not too bad either...

Article states it flies at 70 mph, while video states 70 kph. Big difference.

Isn't that just like an amphibious aeroplane? I suppose it has the advantage of not requiring an airstrip if there are no suitable bodies of water nearby, but I'm not convinced that is such a big deal.
