Still, the transformation from pupae to butterfly or moth is a fascinating process. It's as close to witnessing an alien birth as many will ever come. Doesn't that sound nice? I would like to gently point out that butterflies emerge, and are NOT born or hatched- from their chrysalises, not cocoons. The moth pupal stage is within a cocoon; the butterfly pupal stage IS the chrysalis. That said, thanks for posting these great insect photos!
