About ten years ago the internet was a very different place. Instead of blogs and personal profiles, it was filled with stores that sold everything from scooters for your loft to pet supplies for agoraphobic pet owners.

It's hard to believe the dot-com bubble burst, but when it did, it was social media that emerged from the sticky, soapy discharge of fallen venture capitalists and crushed dreams. You loved it immediately. It gave you a voice. And so you set your heart on recruiting every single person you thought would maybe want to listen. They loved it too and did the same.
