Asking why berets were okay and obscenely weird video editing was the norm is like asking why the sky is blue: there is no answer, unless the answer is that it's the reflection of the sea or refraction diffusion whatever.

Although American culture has bounced back from a bygone era filled with obscenely weird nonsense, we've still got stuff going on that makes 100% NO SENSE (see Kate Gosselin, Dancing With The Stars, and basically every tabloid this side of ...every tabloid).

And yet, early Japanese hip hop kind of puts everything we ever did wrong to shame. Because, wow, what IS this?
