Cool segment on science experiments. Kudos from a science teacher.

The egg trick is really a simple air pressure trick. As the egg covers the opening of the jar, the air inside is trapped. When the hot gases from the matches cool, the pressure drops (gay-lussac's law: decreased temp = decreased pressure) and a low pressure system is created inside the bottle. Thus, the higher air pressure OUTSIDE the bottle actually PUSHES the egg through the opening. To get it out, you have to create a high pressure system inside the bottle - tilt the bottle upside and blow into it.

But what do I know? I once blew up a sink in a botched science demo.
