Bra Colors Take Over Facebook Status Updates

Curious as to why your favorite ladies on Facebook are all of a sudden posting seemingly random colors to their status messages? Yeah, we were too. And if you're first guess was some sort of Law & Order: SVU-inspired teenage sex scandal [NSFW!] color game that would have the local news all aflutter -- you're actually wrong.

Thanks to a bit of deep web spelunking (credit going to Kelly and her trusty Google), we've gathered that these one-line simple statuses are coming from a viral Facebook message, sent just to women, that asks for them to post only their bra color in their Facebook status. The message reads a bit like this,

Something fun is going on. Write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. And send this on to ONLY women no men. It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of cancer awareness. It will be fun to see how long it takes before the men wonder why the women have a color in their status.....LOL!

So no, this isn't just to confuse people. According to a few sources, the messages are all claiming that efforts will hopefully conduct a viral spread of Breast Cancer Awareness.

As supporters of viral movements (and a few of us faithful bra-wearers), we're all for this type of fun. Even slightly confusing Facebook status messages beat ones about babies pooping and last night's delicious casserole dinner. Got any more information for us, intrepid web friends? Send it on over.

MORE UPDATES: So, did the colors make any difference? According to the Washington Post, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation had quite a surprise when the viral spread had a bit on a effect on their Facebook page: almost 140,000 new Facebook fans.

This is pretty dumb. Maybe you think it's funny or cutesy or something, but how is a zillion girls saying "PINK! BLUE! GREEN! BLACK!" promoting ANYTHING? Nobody was saying anything about breast cancer, they were just trying to titillate all the dudes on the friends list by posting the color of their undergarments.

And another thing-- if you want to help the breast cancer cause, why don't you donate some money or something? "Promoting awareness?" Seriously, who's not already AWARE of breast cancer? We're all aware, thanks. Donate some money and help find a cure if you're so inclined. Otherwise, shut about your bra because it's not helping anything and it's cluttering up my dumb newsfeed.

I saw the colors posted on Facebook and was puzzled, and then I thought it was panty colors. No one else told me what the color thing was about, and I was afraid to ask. So, I'm glad AOL posted the article!

I'm sorry...but I don't see how this creates breast cancer awareness. I am a woman and I think this is dumb. The only thing that we are becoming aware of is the color of everyone's bra.

I received one of these messages from a family member, asking me to post the color of my bra online and saying that it would help promote breast cancer, but considering that I see no way that it could help, I didn't bother.

If someone can tell me how posting a bra color (truthfully) can promote breast cancer awareness, let me know, okay? I'd like to be honestly informed...
