fennec fox
Keyboard Cat is cool and all, and lord knows we'll never get tired of puppies versus other objects, but isn't it time we started seeing some videos of lesser known animals doing cute things? Here are five animals that are verging on extinction by lack of adorable, embeddable videos. Consider this your public service announcement.
1. The Jerboa

These little guys are what Pikachu is based on, and they are friggin' crazy looking. Look at those ears (especially on the pygmy jerboa zomg!) and the way they hop around on two legs and tell me we don't need the jerboa to become next year's Dramatic Chipmunk meme.

2. The Fennec Fox

I don't know why, and I don't know how, but it's legal to own a fennec fox in the United States, information which parents purposely hide from their children to prevent a rush on these things at your local pet store. Maybe I just have it in for animals with gigantic ears that like to eat things?

3. Puffins

Why aren't there any children's programming based around the life of a twee teenage puffin and his friends? Michael Cera could do the voice-acting, and we'd get Wes Anderson to direct. Perfect.

4. The Fruit Bat

Bear with me on this one: I know a lot of people think bats are creepy, but fruit bats aren't carnivorous, so what's the problem? I mean, the sonar screeching could get a little old, and there's always rabies, but viewed from the safe distance of your computer screen these little guys are adorbs.

5. Chinchillas

Remind me again, why don't Jamie Glaser's videos have a million page views already? Travesty. This guy knows what's up: chinchillas are great, furry, and bathe in sand. And sing, apparently.
