While it may be illegal to deface traffic signals for a variety of reasons (violent car crashes), these stop signs feature a clever line or cliché that includes the word stop. They may not be the world's coolest bus stops, but they might make you think twice before rolling through an intersection. It's hard to stop at every stop sign you see, especially if the sign's behind a bush or tall people crossing the street. Officials in Oak Lawn, IL tried to change things by modifying the city's stop signs to be a little more eye-catching. In the fall of 2007 they added one-liners like, "Stop means that you aren't moving." to their signage, but the Illinois Department of Transportation pointed out the changes breached safety standards and requested their removal. The signs were removed in April 2008.

Half of these signs are in Denton, TX. you can clearly see the the University of North Texas in the background on a few of them. Those of us who live here find them pretty amusing. The "Don't Stop Believin'" sign is on the street where i work.

As a traffic control professional, I find nothing funny about AOL endorsing criminal activity. If someone dies because of this will AOL stand up and take the heat along with the owning munipality of the sign. Guess what? The municipality that maintains that sign is criminally liable for the defacing which guess what makes you, the taxpayer liable. Go ahead and laugh. AOL please post an immediate apology for you poor journalism and immediately remove this article.

T thought the signs were unique and needed to be said. As a senior citizen it was nice to see the younger generation doing doing nice things for their community. I commend them and hope they keep it up and that others will follw their example.

Note that the Stop Valdemort and Stop Eating are the very same signs. I suspect that this sign was set up for this series of pictures. Cute though :)

I think that the person/s responsible for the change in the stop signs were being creative and looked to a more creative approach to cause the "younger generation" to pay more attention to the signs and STOP. I thought it was a good idea. Sorry they "DID AWAY" with it.. I believe it might have helped save a life..or at least save on some damage control. The younger generation need to be told several times before it finally "clicks" these stop sign were definitely original.

Those might be photoshopped. The ones on Chestnut are real, I seen 'em with my own eyes. One is just a short block down from the other. The "don't stop believing" and "STOP- Hammertime" ones are real as well.
