If you've ever listened to a song that wasn't written by, like, George Washington or Jesus, then you've probably beared aural witness to a sample. Lifting material from a song and using it in another song is nothing new. In fact, Puffy P Diddy Daddy caused a minor uproar in the nineties when people were like, "Who do you think you are, taking stuff from other people and calling it your own? MONICA LEWINSKY?" (Hey, it was the nineties!)
Well, now there's a library documenting songs featuring samples, and their aural forefathers (and mothers). At Who Sampled, you can look up who performed which tunes, and where those ditties found a second (and sometimes third) life. And it's all very clearly illustrated via video!
