Short film festivals are normally an exercise in patience that cause you to seriously audit your definition of the word "short." Last week there was an exception: Tumblr's Reblog This Film Festival at Cinespace in Hollywood. This might have been Tumblr's first festival but they know what they're doing i.e. open bar, open heart.
With 15 chosen from 206 entries, Reblog This was thoughtfully programmed and paced, keeping in mind the value of variety. Most festivals are stuffed with films where experimentation isn't born from ideas and play, as much as a desire to hot dog and make the medium more than the message. The films at Reblog This, on the other hand, like the bloggers in attendance, didn't take themselves too seriously. That's not to say the films weren't exceptional, they were but they were also straight-up entertaining. Definitely check out Pills, Lost and Found, El Creepo, Guess Who and keep an eye out for more Tumblr events to come.
