If there's one thing we know about child beauty pageant contestants, it's that they make us upset. They are tragic little human beings who (despite the claims by parents that their kids are all for the constant preening, posing, and subjection to judgment by "qualified" [?] grown-ups) would probably rather be playing.
Of course, everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but Susan Anderson's portraits of the teeny queens makes it hard to think of child pageantry as anything other than demeaning and creepy. Her exhibit, "High Glitz," recently opened at the Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles.
