There's a brilliant video going around that manages to really capture a moment in internet. "The Social Media Guru," a video made by Markham Nolan with the help of Xtranormal, satirizes two prominent groups of people operating in the wild west that is the online content marketplace -- dinosaurs with money to spend but no idea what they're doing, and so-called 'social media experts' who claim that because they have 10 million Twitter followers and a highly active StumbleUpon account, they can bring untold bajillions of eyeballs to your website. You might wanna throw on some headphones before watching the video, 'cuz there's some NSFW language, but it's highly hilarious:

Nolan, a freelance journalist based in Ireland, has struck a nerve, and he knows it. The video's racked up 40,000 YouTube views in just over a week. He wrote this insightful note on his blog about its success:

The way the video has taken off reiterates its core message. Social media is, for the most part, free and easy to use. If you're creative with your message, and you can put something together that strikes a universal chord, there's every chance it will take off and give you coverage beyond your wildest dreams. When everyone's using the same media, the message becomes all-important.

So there you have it. Social media gurus High-quality content will save us all. If you build it, they will come. Or just hire Markham Nolan, he'll fix the rest.
