The merry pranksters behind Improv Everywhere have done it again. After bringing their signature off-kilter flash mobs to stores, malls and travel hubs, the mischief-makers retreated to their original stakeout of choice: the New York City subway. Famous for creating the now-annual No Pants Subway Ride in which a keenly planned group of nonchalant "strangers" spring up en masse on one train line and all sans pants, the gang retreated underground once again.
This time, the trickery involved a spontaneous yearbook photo shoot, in which unassuming passengers were invited to sit pretty for a complimentary portrait while en route to their destinations. The willing participants were told that the photographer was hired by the MTA to photograph the diverse subway riding population and that their pictures would be published in a book at the end of the year. Even though it was all merely a prank organized by Improv Everywhere brainchild, Charlie Todd (the dude in the video with the mustache), the good sports who agreed to have their photos taken get to see their precious mugs on the web -- merely a bonus point for partaking in the all-in-good-fun. And besides, a viral video is almost as good as a yearbook, right?

I take the subway everyday. From the buskers to the beggars, I think New Yorkers need something new lol! Also, judging by the dour looks on peoples faces everymorning, this would probably make the straphanger population a bit more happy.

to Ms r.
didnt you see people signing the paper? Im almost 100% sure it was a release to take the photo AND to publish it. They weren't being fraudulent. These people knew their pics were going to be seen "somewhere".
pay attention to the video. Again, Good job guys!!!

I thought it was strange that it was a prank because it wasn't really funny. Really it would have been a great Sociology project truthfully showing the faces of public transportation. It was actually kind of beautiful seeing all of the diversity and helps rid of stereotypical thinking of "having to ride the bus."

This one bothers me. I don't think it's good improv at all. It's not funny to see people being made fools of, and you can tell that some of those people really cared about their photo- like the mother with her daughters. What's funny about this? The flash mobs are hysterical. This one was just lying to people. Hope spme new and better ideas bubble up, IE.

To Ms. R --- If they didn't read the waiver they were signing, that's their own fault. it's not a fraud. Besides. no one was hurt in the process, or embarrassed. it was just good fun. people didn't have to do it. don't get all up-in-arms over something so simple and upbeat.

I subscribed to ImprovEverywhere's YouTube channel AGES ago. Some of their work is AMAZING. Recently they waited outside of a courthouse for any ramdon couple who'd just gotten married by a justice of the peace & threw them a reception. It was in the courtyard, they had guests, gifts, food, a DJ, the whole bit. The young couple who took the offer had the best time and it's something they'll always remember. If you go to their vids, also check out the Home Depot (or one of those type of places,) where they when through the store in slow motion, then FROZE.

that was stupid. it wasnt clever, it wasnt funny, it wasnt interesting. How is this organization so popular, i havent seen a clip that i would deem worthy of press. In fact, most college students do funnier more clever skits everyday, it is absurd that this organization is making money.

I think it's great! Those people were all smiling and it probably left them with good thoughts and started their day nice....who knows how many people had stress on their mind important projects and everything else....and the pics that came out were incredible if you ask me....This is our country....someone should travel around taking pictures of our Americans and put them in a book!!! I think its great!!!

I think this type of improv is great! Even though many people dont like the idea that in a way these people were lied to...at the end it had a positive result...it was meant to be harmless. What is wrong with our society is that now everything is viewed in a negative way...which is very sad. Even taking pic of your own kids or having a black princess in a disney movie. Everything is made into such a controversy.
