We all know that paper comes from trees but I, for one, never really knew how much paper a typical tree produced. It turns out it's somewhere between seven and eleven thousand standard sheets, a number which seems high at first until you consider all the newspapers, magazines, paper towels, paper bags, toilet paper, milk cartons, cereal boxes and every other paper product you consume on an almost daily basis. If you have two or three weekly magazine subscriptions a year, you've probably knocked off an entire tree right there.

Ban The Phone Book hopes to curb our tree killing ways by creating an opt-in program from The White Pages. According to BTPB:
  • Up to 5 million trees are cut down each year to create The White Pages
  • Taxpayers pay $17 million each year to have phonebooks recycled
  • According to a recent WhitePages.com survey, over 80% of consumers would support an 'opt-in' program (only receive a white pages phone book if you request one) if they knew it would have a positive impact on the environment and save taxpayers money.

If you want to help out the environment by supporting the opt-in program, head over to BanThePhoneBook and sign the petition on the homepage.
